Also known as Natural Swimming Pools, Swimming ponds are

large ponds which are clean enough to swim in.

In a Natural swimming pool, the water is purified by waterplants specialy chosen for their qualities in water purification. In a natural swimming pool, you will not need to use any chemicals to purify the water. On the contrary, you will be creating a whole ecosystem that favours the development of the fauna and flora. The waterplants produce oxygen, and are an important rest and hiding place for the inhabitants of the natural swimming pool.  A biological swimming pool has been specialy designed for swimming. You can either have the waterplants in the same, or in a separate part of the swimming pool. In a natural swimming pool, a minimum of a third of the swimming area is taken up  by the waterplants or "regeneration zone".  The larger the regeneration zone however, the warmer the swimming pool.

Swimming ponds can be designed to suit any style

of garden. Existing swimming pools can also be converted into natural swimming pools. This is cheaper than starting from scratch. The cost of building a swimming pond from scratch starts at £40,000. The smallest viable area of a swimming pond, including the regeneration zone is about 50 square meters.
